Advanced Resources for Creating Conscious Relationships
When we first came together, nearly thirty years ago, there were no self-help books or other useful resources on creating a conscious relationship. In hindsight, this was a blessing for us, because the lack of outside resources forced us to take responsibility for learning what we most needed to know.
We began with a very big question: Is it possible to create a relationship in which we grow more loving toward each other at the same time as we grow more creative as individuals? We went in search of resources and role models, consulting many famous and lesser-known experts along the way, but we couldn’t find anyone who had the kind of relationship that really inspired us.
So, with no examples to guide us, our only alternative was to turn our relationship into a living laboratory. We committed to creating a new kind of relationship, and we also committed to learning from every interaction along the way. This commitment saw us through some tough times, and kept us from making the same mistakes over and over. The learning came fast and furious (sometimes very furious!) in those first few years together.
The beauty of such intense learning is that with each breakthrough we moved to a deeper feeling of love and connection with each other. We learned and practiced and persisted, and ultimately we found our way to an unimaginable state of bliss and fulfillment. The work definitely paid off. For example, it’s been well over ten years since either one of us has spoken a critical word to the other or had any kind of conflict. Instead of squandering energy through conflict, blame and criticism, we channel it into creativity and contribution. The feeling of loving connection has grown commensurate with our creativity. As a result, the feeling of our own individual independence has deepened as our love for each other has grown.
